The San Diego City College women’s basketball team (0-2) returns to City College after an unsatisfactory end of season last year.
The Knights are coming off a 13-15 overall record and a below .500, 6-8 record in the Pacific Athletic Coast Conference in its 2024-2025 season.
The season ended with a disappointing 97-63 loss against Grossmont, the largest margin of defeat during their conference, in which they did not lead at any point during the match.
Sophomore Dahlia Blake returns as captain for the women’s team after coming off a knee injury last season.
“We didn’t have the most successful season last year,” Blake said during media day on Oct. 22. “We had a lot of ups-and-downs to get over.”
Last season, Aamori Daniels was named the second team All-Conference, leading City in points, rebounds, blocks and averaged 16 points per game. Daniels will be returning to City for her sophomore year this upcoming season.
Before the season started, head coach Andrea Aguilar Montalban knew that although they had a small team, they have the desire to move far into the season.
“(They) have the mentality that they want to fight, they want to listen, they want to learn,” Montalban said. “They have the ability to do it because they’re willing to learn and they’re willing to grow.”
The Knights have played two away games against Glendale and Rio Hondo, both resulting in losses for the team.
Their first home game will be against El Camino at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11 at Harry West Gym.
“As a female athlete, it really means a lot when (fans) come out to the games,” Blake said. “We play better when we have increasing support from our fans.”
Home games will be broadcast live through the City Times Media’s YouTube channel for live updates.
